Should've put these on my blog ages ago!

Looked at drag queens and transvestites and the costumes they wear.
Obviously Alternative Miss World. I looked on the website and copied this;
"What is the Alternative Miss World?
Started in 1972, The Alternative Miss World is not about beauty - it's about transformation - and when it comes to costume absolutely anything goes. Like the real Miss World there is day wear, swim-wear and evening wear and the all important personality interview! But Logan refuses to let anyone rehearse, and anything can - and often does - happen.
It's about creative free-reign, about the ordinary becoming extraordinary. Contestants over the years have been famous and infamous, celebrated and unknown, a parade of freaks, fops, show offs and drag queens... including Andrew's many friends and family! The climax is a tear stained coronation with Logan's dazzling Crown Jewels made of broken mirrors."

But I thought of other examples of mass amounts of drag queens and transvestites, a friend suggested Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. This is a 1994 drama-comedy film. The plot follows the journey of three drag queens who travel across Australia. Not really something I'd watch but my friend was nice enough to give a link to a video as well so here it is...

Mock FMP

Yay finally an opportunity to continue the dreams project from back at the beginning of the year!
Looked at what the definitions of dreams are on the internet;
As a noun,
  • A series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person's mind during sleep
  • A state of mind in which someone is or seems to be unaware of their immediate surroundings
  • A cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal
  • An unrealistic or self-deluding fantasy
As a verb,
  • Experience dreams during sleep
  • See, hear, or feel (something) in a dream
  • Indulge in daydreams or fantasies, typically about something greatly desired
  • Contemplate the possibility of doing something or that something might be the case
Then there's obviously wikipedia  too...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream

The fifth element

This has led me to go down the ancient Greek clothing theme with my Alternative Miss World. A lot of the clothing is just one piece of material clipped and belted in place so i have decided just to use a piece of shiny material such as plastic (bin bags maybe?) to create a chiton. Then have something of my design on the top of this, possible something over the shoulders or on the arms as a sleeve like i originally said. As Alternative Miss World is over-the-top, the 'sleeve' needs to be over-the-top. I could easily achieve this using my research of theater costumes.

Aether is said to be the Fifth Element, especially by the Greeks.

Home digital work

I've started revamping some old art work i've found from over 5 years ago. This goes with my belief of not chucking away and forgetting about old things but working from and improving old things to become better. I know it doesn't always apply.
Anyway, here are the two pieces I've been working on this week. I have used the new skills that I've learnt in Dave's lesson to create these. Thinking that these could be possibilities for portfolio work. We'll see.
