This has led me to go down the ancient Greek clothing theme with my Alternative Miss World. A lot of the clothing is just one piece of material clipped and belted in place so i have decided just to use a piece of shiny material such as plastic (bin bags maybe?) to create a chiton. Then have something of my design on the top of this, possible something over the shoulders or on the arms as a sleeve like i originally said. As Alternative Miss World is over-the-top, the 'sleeve' needs to be over-the-top. I could easily achieve this using my research of theater costumes.Aether is said to be the Fifth Element, especially by the Greeks.
